走在池上的街上，常常會被轉角不期而遇的裝置藝術品驚艷而駐足停留，有時是整面屋牆彩繪而成的星空；有時是竹林裡探出的日昇；有時則是夜晚中發出暖暖光輝的星球。這些作品都是王金生的創作，不僅僅進行環境創作，這兩年更協助修繕福原國小旁的日式教師宿舍。隨著木門拉開，走進屋內陣陣的木頭香味撲鼻，陽光藉由窗花緩緩透入室內，竹條穿插所形成的隔間讓室內多了些許自然的生機。

Walking through the streets of Chishang, you will often be surprised by the installation artwork that you come across around the corner. It may be a starry sky painted on the entire wall of a house, a sunrise peeking out of a bamboo forest, or a warm glowing planet in the night. These works are the creations of Jin Sheng Wang, who has not only been making environment creations but also helped renovate the teachers’ Japanese-style dormitory next to Fu Yuan Primary School in the past two years. As the wooden door opened, the smell of wood poured in, the sunlight flowed into the room through the window grilles, and the compartments formed by the interspersed bamboo slats give the room some natural vibrancy.

整修荒頹老屋，讓人們重新回到這些逐漸被人遺忘的空間
Renovating Old Houses, Allowing People to Return to These Gradually Forgotten Spaces

 

「不知道為什麼，一直跟老房子很有緣份，都是它們來找我的。」
王金生在這之前也曾經修繕過位於都蘭的一棟老屋，打造成別具特色的餐飲小店兼工作室「也什在都蘭」。然而卻因為都蘭的觀光人潮日益增加，身體吃不消這忙碌的節奏，於是搬離了都蘭前往屏東滿州，同樣整修破舊老屋打造特色咖啡屋「滿州一間店」，遂因家人的健康因素，搬來了池上準備修養生息，遇上了一間漸頹的竹管厝老屋，透過王金生的巧手，打造成了滿富古樸風味的藝術展間「池上老處」。聽著王金生洋洋灑灑地講起與這些老屋的緣分，從原本的荒頹進行改造，把人們重新拉回這些逐漸被人遺忘的房子中，延續老屋的故事。

“I don’t know why, but I’ve always had a connection with old houses. They’ve always come to me.”
In the past, Wang had renovated an old house in Doulan and turned it into a unique restaurant and studio “Ye Shi Zai Doulan”. However, due to the increasing number of tourists in Doulan, his body could not cope with the busy rhythm. He moved from Doulan to Manzhou in Pingtung. Once again, he renovated an aged house to create a special café “A Shop in Manzhou”. Because of his family’s health problems, he then moved to Chishang to recuperate. He came across a decaying bamboo house, which, through Wang’s skillful hands, was transformed into a quaint art exhibition room “Chishang Old Place”. Wang talks copiously and fluently about his relationship with these gradually forgotten houses, transforming them from their original desolation and bringing people back, continuing their tales.

而福原國小旁的日式宿舍群，原本也因面臨無經費維護逐漸毀損的原因將面臨到拆除的命運，引起了池上在地居民的一陣惋惜，不少人到處奔走尋找資源，希望有機會將老屋保存，而王金生也自告奮勇地向主管單位提議可以協助進行修繕這難得從日治時期就留下來的老宿舍。於是在資源非常有限的狀況下完成修繕，福原國小旁的教師宿舍被保留了，也將繼續創造新的故事。

The Japanese-style dormitories next to Fu Yuan Primary School were also facing demolition due to a lack of maintenance and fund, which caused a wave of sorrow among the local residents of Chishang. Many people went around looking for resources in the hope of preserving the old houses. Wang also volunteered to help renovate the old buildings built during the Japanese colonial period. The renovation was finally completed with limited resources, and the teachers' dormitories were preserved and will continue to tell new stories.

一群人的力量，造就了池上生活美學的實踐
The Power of a Group Has Created the Aestheticization of Everyday Life in Chishang

 

整修過多處老屋的王金生，搬至池上不久，便被池上鄉公所邀請參與公共空間美化工作。從池上郵局旁原本堆置廢棄物的廣場開始，進行空間改造將資源回收物為材料，以廢棄鋼管、鐵架以及數量龐大的各色玻璃瓶等進行創作，原本的閒置窳陋空間搖身一變為「池上星球」。星球點燈的夜晚，為池上的街道綻放了暖暖光輝，在各色玻璃的照射下閃耀；而白天的星球更可以透過玻璃巷內窺探形成奇幻的萬花世界。這是王金生在池上的第一個作品。

Jin Sheng Wang, who has renovated several old houses, was invited by Chishang Township Office to participate in the beautification of public space soon after he moved to Chishang. They started from the square next to the Chishang Post Office, where waste materials were originally piled up. He transformed the space into a “Chishang planet” by using recycled materials, discarded steel pipes, iron frames, and a huge number of glass bottles. In the night when the planet is lit, the street of Chishang is illuminated by the warm glow of glass with various colors. In the daytime, the planet can be seen through the glass just like a kaleidoscope. This is Wang’s first creation in Chishang.

 

 

 

 

 

接下來，便開始了王金生在池上街上大大小小的改造。大至進行老屋的牆面創作，小至將街道原本看起來雜亂的花園苗圃修整、整修年久損壞的圍籬、將已經斑駁剝落的牆面進行修補與彩繪。

Since then, Wang has been making all kinds of transformations in Chishang’s Street. From large creations on the walls of old houses to the repair of messy-looking gardens, damaged fences, and painting the walls that are speckled and peeled.

 

 

 

 

「其實，每個人天生都是有美感的，只是我們不常注意而已，我只是將原本雜亂無章的空間稍微的整理而已。」

“In fact, everyone was born with a sense of beauty. We just don’t always notice it. All that I did is just tidying up the messy space.”

 

說著說著我們走到了某一戶人家門前，指著說：「你看到這一戶人家，原本我只是協助幫忙簡單整理，讓環境看起來不要太雜亂，過沒多久後他們看一看也覺得很喜歡，還自己油漆了自己的門面做彩繪。」
小小的改變，讓「美」像蝴蝶效應一般牽動著池上的每一個角落四處發芽。

We came to a particular house as we talked, Wang pointed out, “Look at this house. Originally, I just helped tidying up, so that it does not look too messy. After a short time, the resident feels very fond of it. So, they also painted their front door.”
Small changes made “beauty” spread to every corner of Chishang like the butterfly effect.

 

走到了池上農會對面，有一整面以玻璃打造的「花牆」，王金生利用平常大家丟棄的回收物進行創作，在馬路街邊的創作引起了大家的好奇與佇足觀望，看著看著不少人便也一起自發性地動手加入了創作的行列，更學習如何珍惜身邊的資源與再生，最後整面牆完成竟累計了184人共同參與創作這面《開在池上的花》。而美學與再生的種子也終將透過這群人遍地開花。

Across the street from the Chishang Farmers’ Association, there is an entire “flower wall” made of glass. Wang used the recycled materials that people usually throw away to create his work. This creation on the roadside aroused curiosity and attracted many people’s attention. Many people joined in the creation spontaneously. The wall, “Flower Blossom in Chishang,” was finally completed with 184 people. The seeds of aesthetics and rebirth will eventually blossom through this group of people.

 

 

 

 

「真的不是單靠我一個人的力量啦！有好多人的參與、協助，有更多時候我只是做一個開頭而已。池上的美是團體的共構！公所的幫忙，大家自發性的參與、維護與創作，一起成就了池上的生活美學！」王金生靦腆又謙虛地笑說。點點滴滴的改變與實踐，帶動了眾人參與，成就了池上的美。

“It’s really not just about me! So many people have participated and helped, and more often than not, I am just the beginning. The beauty of Chishang is a community effort! With the help of the township office and the spontaneous participation, maintenance, and creation, the aestheticization of Chishang’s everyday life is made possible.” Jin Sheng Wang said bashfully and modestly. The subtle changes and practices have led to the participation of the public and the beauty of Chishang.
